Catherine J. Watts
Dr Catherine Watts has worked in Higher Education for over forty years in the broad fields of foreign language teaching and learning. She is currently affiliated to: the university of Alcalá de Henares where she teaches research and observation in the bilingual classroom; the university of Heidelberg where she teaches historical linguistics and etymology; the university of Shanghai (SISU) where she advises on the design and writing of English language textbooks in the primary and secondary school sectors.
Between 2007 and 2016 Catherine was consortium director (Routes into Languages South) of a government-funded initiative to promote the take-up of modern foreign languages in the secondary school sector in England. She has written nine academic textbooks to date, seven of which have been published by Routledge publishers since 2013. Her most recent publication (June 2023) is again published by Routledge and is entitled: Language Change and Nineteenth-Century Science: new words, new worlds.
